Ms. Germaine Jenkins (she, her) is co-founder and Chief Farm Officer at Fresh Future Farm Inc. in North Charleston, SC. She earned Commercial Urban Agriculture certification from Growing Power Inc. in 2014. She also won seed capital to start an urban farm and grocery store in the heart of a residential neighborhood.
The Farm has sold or distributed over 17 tons of basic and specialty groceries, hosted over 200 students for STEAM (STEM + Art) farm camps, and trained over 100 adults in natural gardening practices. Most importantly, FFF has kept the bulk of its revenue in the community as compensation for residents. The pandemic forced the closure of their sliding scale grocery store, but the FFF team continues to offer bi-weekly grocery distributions to neighbors and is fiscal sponsor for the Lowcountry Mutual Aid Fund which supports rent and utility needs of marginalized BIPOC and LBGTQ people.
